The Biden Administration has recently made public an investment of US$13bn for the modernisation and expansion of the United States’ national grid. The funding will be provided through the Gird Resilience Innovative Partnership (GRIP) and Transmission Facilitation Programmes.

The amount will be split between states, companies and tribes that develop different network improvement projects. The Department of Energy (DOE) will be responsible for awarding the fund.

A revamp at the US electric grid has been made necessary, as 70% is over 25 years old and the drive for distribution of clean energy rises.

The grant is just the first part of Biden-Harris’ Building a Better Grid Initiative, released in January 2022.
